As NGOs accredited and related to different International Organizations and Regional Institutions, WUSME may contribute to a number of activities, including information dissemination, raising awareness, submitting written & oral statements and papers, organizing side events, development education & training, policy advocacy, joint operational projects, participation in intergovernmental processes and in the contribution of services and technical expertise.
WUSME & UNIDO
WUSME IN CONSULTATIVE STATUS WITH UNIDO since 2020
WORLD UNION OF SMALL AND MEDIUM ENTERPRISES (WUSME) was officially granted Consultative Status with United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) at the 48th session of the Industrial Development Board, which took place from November 23-25, 2020 at the Vienna International Center in Vienna, Austria. The consultative status is a token of acknowledgement of a formal cooperative relationship between UNIDO and WUSME. Receiving the status was a further milestone in the development of WUSME and also an essential step to the establishment of an exchange platform for global SMEs. Consultative Status with UNIDO is viewed as an international appreciation for excellent and professionalism of WUSME with the granted status. Only a small number of NGOs have obtained that status in the past.
WUSME & UNFCCC (COP)
ADMITTED BY THE CONFERENCE OF THE PARTIES (COP) AS OBSERVER ORGANIZATION TO THE UNFCCC since 2018
Since 2016 WUSME has been attending several editions of the UN Conference on Climate Change with increasing engagement in supporting MSMEs & Crafts facing Climate Change, highlighting related remedial measures and acting as a link between Institutions and SMEs and Crafts.
The World Union fo Small and Medium Enterprises has been officially granted observer status to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) during the 24th Conference of Parties (CoP) in 2018. This new status enabled the Union to engage more substantially with the climate negotiation processes and strengthen its efforts in raising visibility for MSMEs within the climate debate.
Ever since its foundation in 2010, climate change has been a pivotal issue for the Union, as manifested through the discussion of related topics within many multi-stakeholder dialogues and the publication of many articles and statements since CoP22.
As Admitted Observer NGO to UNFCCC, WUSME is entitled to engage in several ways:
-developing position papers and making formal submissions in re-sponse to calls for information and views by negotiating bodies;
-holding bilaterals with government delegates to share position papers and submissions, and advocate policy perspectives;
-showcasing and advocacy through press conferences, side events and exhibits, whereby observer organizations can network and disseminate;
-making joint constituency statements in the plenaries and at the high-level segment addressing the conference with concise and impactful messages delegates from a diversity of voices channeled through constituencies;
-preparing for dialogues and briefings and raising key issues and asking pertinent questions to the Presiding officers and the UNFCCC Executive Secretary. These meeting are chaired by one of the Constituency Focal Points.

WUSME IN SPECIAL CONSULTATIVE STATUS WITH THE UN-ECOSOC
AS BRIDGE BETWEEN SMEs AND THE UNITED NATIONS IN THE WORLD since 2013
As NGO in “Special Consultative Status” with the UN-ECOSOC since 2013, WUSME has the opportunity, through its representatives, to interact regularly with the United Nations system to acquire qualified information on opportunities of growth and development existing for Small and Medium Enterprises and Crafts, start up, young entrepreneurs and women entrepreneurs. The accreditation to the United Nations confirms the commitment of WUSME in the promotion and enhancement of SMEs with particular reference to their access to finance, education & training, business.
WUSME is one of the few Non-Profit-NGOs, operating in protection and support of SMEs globally, interacting with the UN system and related Offices in Geneva, New York and Vienna, as recognized Bridge Organizations for SMEs and related Associations, seizing opportunities for funds, projects, contacts, as well as qualified information able to enhance profitable partnerships.

WUSME SIGNATORY OF THE UN GLOBAL COMPACT since 2012
WUSME is Partner Organization of the United Nations Global Compact since 2012.
The UN Global Compact is a United Nations initiative founded to encourage businesses worldwide to adopt sustainable policies, in respect of corporate social responsibility, and to make public the results of actions taken. This is a forum that brings together more than 20,000 business and non-business partners in more than 160 countries.
The primary goal of the organization’s members is to adapt their strategies and activities to internationally accepted principles associated with human rights, labour, environmental sustainability as well as the “2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”.
WUSME, as a party to the UN Global Compact, is engaged to contribute to the global sustainable development strategy by aligning its strategy and activities with the relevant principles of the Sustainable Development Goals, supporting the development of MSMEs.
The Commitment on Engagement is a report in which the Organization illustrates how it has actively and concretely promoted the respect for the ten principles by enterprises in the last two years of activity. The document also contains a description of the practical actions that the WUSME Organization has adopted to support the Global Compact, there including engagement with local networks, participation in and/or proposal of partnership projects on corporate sustainability and support to special initiatives.
